Goldwasser, translated into Polish as "golden water", is the so-called Gdańsk vodka. The recipe for this drink dates back to the 16th century, when it was prepared by a certain Ambroży Vermoolen - a Mennonite, a religious refugee from the Netherlands who settled in Gdańsk. Goldwasser vodka is a herbal-spicy, strong liqueur, distinguished from other alcohols not only by its rich composition of spices and herbs, but also by the content of gold flakes, which is where its name comes from. They sparkle magnificently in every bottle of the drink, giving Goldwasser vodka a truly exquisite character. The price of this excellent alcohol has never been low, but it has always been eagerly purchased as a luxury good. It owes its aromaticity to the combination of as many as twenty different spices. It is intertwined with notes of anise, cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, thyme and lavender. No wonder that this drink won the hearts of many powerful people of this world, such as Tsarina Catherine the Great, Tsar Peter I or King Louis XIV of France. The fame that Goldwasser liqueur has gained is proven by the fact that even the bard Adam Mickiewicz mentioned this drink in "Pan Tadeusz".
